Top 7 Websites for FREE Font Downloads

If, like myself, you share an enthusiasm for fonts, you might find the perpetual quest for the ideal typeface a familiar pursuit. While the world of fonts encompasses a range of premium options, the associated costs can be substantial. Fortunately, there exists a wealth of free resources that can alleviate the need for unnecessary expenditures. Drawing upon years of daily engagement with fonts, I have curated a collection of noteworthy websites that provide exceptional font selections without any cost. This compilation is intended to assist those who, like me, wish they had access to such a guide when embarking on their initial exploration of fonts.

Although the fonts are free to download, it does not mean that they can be used freely for commercial purposes. Usually, the license information is included inside the zip file once you download the font.

FONT SHARE

Font Share is where you’ll find free modern, classic, and elegant fonts. They have a great library with plenty of options and a great way of presenting the fonts to the user.

Make sure you check out fonts per classification and don’t be afraid to explore with keywords on their search bar.

FONT BRIEF

Font Brief has to be one of my absolute favorite free font resources. They provide you samples of fonts according to the personality you want the font to give off visually. The chart that you see on the left side of the image allows the user to fill in descriptions they’d like that font to have. If that is not fun I don’t know what is.

I usually use this resource only for inspiration to check out styles to look for according to the personality matches I get. Even though the concept of this site is awesome, it does glitch from time to time and they do not have a font option for every single existing combo of descriptions. This means that sometimes you’ll try to fit a personality and you won’t get any matches. Having said that, it’s a site you have to try at least once.

velvetyne

Velvetyne is definitely my go-to for funky fonts. Navigating this website is amazing because of how responsive it is and how easy it is to download the fonts. If you are searching for out-of-the-box-looking fonts, this is the website you want to check out!

AWWWARDS

Awwward’s fonts has to be one of the websites I check first before starting any of my creative projects. Why? Because they have expensive-looking fonts for free!

You might be thinking: “Sounds too good. There has to be a catch” and unfortunately there is. Even though this is a great resource, is not always easy downloading the fonts you like. They basically list free fonts from other resources and on several occasions, you need to sign up with your email in order to download the fonts and whatnot. If you don’t mind that silly process then I encourage you to dive in because you’ll most certainly find some hidden treasures.

BEFONT

Remember everything I mentioned for Awwwards? BeFont is basically the same. Both websites I like to scroll and scroll for hours only because the way they present the fonts gives me so many ideas. When Pinterest is not doing it for me anymore (I know - weird! But it happens…) I visit font resources like these two to find new visual layout ideas.

GOOGLE FONTS

Google is always great and Google Fonts is no exception. If you see a font you’ve always liked using in Microsoft Word, Pages, Adobe, etc.. You can probably find it here. Like everything Google, their Fonts website is simple and super user-friendly. When you are looking for a good font for a body/paragraph/lots of text you can always trust Google Fonts will have it available for you to download.

DAFONT

Good ol’ DaFont. If you haven’t heard of this website you are either just starting to get your feet wet on the digital creative world or you are living under a rock. Just kidding! (but seriously…)

DaFont has literally one of the biggest library of free fonts ever and it is very popular rightfully so. What i actually really like about DaFont, besides their insane variety, is how you are able to look up to 200 fonts within one category on one single page scroll. Yup, no need to watch ads or jump from page 1 to 240.

Hope this list is helpful! I would love to know if I missed any of your favorites. Comment below.
